The Food for Life program is a nutrition education program of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). The program began in 2001 with direct service, community-based nutrition and cooking classes for cancer prevention and survival. It has now expanded to encompass diabetes treatment, nutritious eating for children, and healthy weight management classes that focus on the lifesaving effects of healthful eating.

With over one million people diagnosed with cancer and 25 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the United States each year – and many more cases in other countries across the globe – there is an urgent need for a new direction in battling diseases. The Food for Life program is an innovative approach to a serious medical challenge.

The award winning program designed by physicians, nurses, and registered dietitians has proven to be a very effective way of teaching people easy, practical ways to put the power of nutrition to work in their battle against cancer, diabetes, and other diseases. It aims first to prevent disease. When disease has been diagnosed, it works for improving survival and treatment. Each class includes information about how certain foods and nutrients work to promote health, along with cooking demonstrations of simple and nutritious recipes that can be recreated easily at home.

The goal of the Food for Life program is to empower class attendees with easy-to-implement cooking skills that turn every meal into a delicious dose of healthy nutrition. www.pcrm.org
